I HAVE A NEW BIRD - AND HE IS SOOOOO SWEET!!!

Got a call on Monday from a friend who asked me if I still took birds in need of a home.  Of course I said yes!

Today he brought me, complete with cage the SWEETEST cockatiel I have ever seen!  They called him "Panama Jack" because of his story.

They were in Panama Beach, Florida when one of the hurricanes hit there - I don't even know which one it was.  Well, they were in their motel room and they heard a "thump" on their balcony window, looked out on the porch and there was a very wet, bedraggled little bird.  They opened the door and he walked right in.  They dried him off and he preened a bit and then began showing off his personality.  They called the local vets (he has a band around one leg) but they said there were so many animals lost and found that the chances of finding his owner were not good.  So they went out and bought him a cage, took him to the vet, had his wings clipped, toenails clipped, and he checked out in excellent health, and they brought him home to Tennessee.

Unfortunately, their dog, a chow, did not take kindly to the intrusion of Panama Jack and "had a fit".  They put Jack in the basement, and then began to think that was not a good life for Jack - stuck in the basement - and both of them work long hours, so luckily for ME they remembered my bird rescue and called me.

This little bird is sooooooooo sweet - he is on my shoulder right now - that is where he is happiest.  He gives kisses, says pretty bird and pretty, pretty bird, and LOVES to have his head rubbed.  I just may have to keep him at the office and take the finches home.  He is sooo much company and loves to be near someone.  He doesn't bite - just nibbles.  I think we have bonded.

I'll try to get a picture of him in the journal.  He looks just like Petey One.

Peace
